Nepal accommodates 1310 mountains ranging from 5500 meters (18,090 ft) to 8848m (29,028ft) above sea level making Nepal as an exceptionally popular country for mountaineers. Since 1978, Nepal Mountaineering Association acquired the authority to issue climbing permits for small-scale peaks.
