Land Size :
2.5 million Square kilometers is the area which includes  U-Tsang, Kham and Amdo provinces. While "Tibet Autonomous Region", consisting of U-Tsang and a small portion of Kham is measured at 1.2 million square kilometers

Tibet is a controversially occupied country and is without United Nations' representation

Lhasa, the capital, is the center of Tibetan culture, religion and Lama Divinity. The Tibetans, Monpas, Lhopas and Muslims who inhabit the plateau have their own distinct values.


The Road to Lhasa :
Travel between Kathmandu and Lhasa or Kailash is an incredible journey where you can perceive the world's highest mountains, drive on the world's highest plains, meet nomadic Tibetan pilgrims and chanting Tibetan monks.

Heli Tour :
Heli tour to Mt. Kailash: Helicopter journeys are provided for devout pilgrims who have limited time to visit or cannot undertake a long drive due to age or other physical problems. This tour is also more comfortable for people who have lung or heart problems.

Climate :
Tibet's climate is extreme continental with vast difference of temperatures between day and night around the year. The average temperature ranges from 3 to 12 degrees centigrade. While traveling in Tibet one can feel some discomfort like breathlessness and headaches before becoming acclimatized. Many hotels keep bottled oxygen for emergencies.

Clothing :
Casual wear and comfortable walking shoes are essential for all Tibet tours none the less warm clothes are a necessity as the nights and mornings are quite chilly.
November to April: Down jacket, thermal underwear, warm trousers, warm sweaters, woolen shirts, gloves, warm hats and scarves and water proof hiking shoes suitable for snow also.
May to October: Rain coats or wind breakers, jackets, sweaters, sunhats, cotton or woolen shirts, comfortable shoes suitable for rain.

Altitude Sickness :
As you pass through high terrain, you are likely to experience minor symptoms and discomfort of altitude sickness until your body gets adjusted to the altitude. It is advisable to drink large quantities of non-alcoholic drinks to avoid dehydration.


Languages :
Tibetans have their own language, which is known as “bod-yig” in the Tibetan-inhabited areas with the meaning of “Tibetan language”. Tibetan language belongs to the Tibetan-Burman branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. According to geographical divisions, it has three major local dialects: Weizang, Kang and Amdo. The first two dialects have their own tones in pronunciation while the latter don’t. Created in the early 7th century, the Tibetan language, a phonetic system of writing, was based on the writing system of the ancient Sanskrit language of India. Tibetan language consists of thirty consonant, four vowels, five inverted letters (for the renting of foreign words) and the punctuations. Sentences are written from right to the left. With two major written scripts namely the regular script and the cursive hand, Tibetan language is widely used in all areas inhabited by Tibetans.


Tibet - Visa & Permit :
All individuals entering Tibet must hold a passport valid for at least six months. If you are entering Tibet from China, your Chinese visa must be valid. Only travelers with tourist visas (not business, resident or student visas) are permitted. Entering Tibet from Nepal, either by friendship highway or by air requires a separate visa valid for Tibet from the Chinese embassy in Katmandu (30-60 day visas are the normal and it normally takes 2 weeks to obtain it.). Tibet Travel Permit types :
There are two kinds of permits for traveling in Tibet: the entry permit (TTB permit) and the Alien's travel permit (PSB permit) which can be arranged from ,Seven Peaks


Tibet Entry Permit (TTB Permit) :
Overseas tourists (Non-Chinese passport holders) and Taiwanese must, in addition to their visa, obtain a Tibet Entry Permit issued by the TTB. Tourists can join a group organized by a travel agency, which will usually handle the permit for them. For individual tourists the offices of the TTB will do it for you. One can only obtain the permit where he or she departs for Tibet. Visitors to Tibet from Chengdu, Golmud, Xian, Chongqing, and other places can only buy their airplane, train, or coach ticket and check in at the airport by submitting the original permit.

The necessary materials to apply for the Tibet Permit are similar to those demanded for a visa. They include one's basic information, such as name, nationality, age, gender, passport number, occupation (journalists and diplomatists are excluded as common tourists to Tibet), tour itineraries, general tour schedule, and phone number, as well as a copy of the visa and the first page of the passport. The permit usually takes 2 days to issue. However, it is best to allow at least two weeks for mailing and processing. After receiving the permit we can arrange the tickets, hotels, and your tour.


Alien's Travel Permit (PSB Permit) :
If you plan to travel into the closed areas of Tibet, such as Tingri, Dromo, Nyalam, Nhagartse, or Purang and Pemako counties, you must further apply for an Alien's Travel Permit which is issued by the Public Security Bureau (PSB) of Tibet. The opened areas of Tibet currently only cover about 16% of the whole region, so apply for one if you plan a deep exploration of the land.


Other Permits :
Travel into sensitive borders such as Mt. Kailash and Eastern Tibet still needs permits from the Military Area and Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet. Besides, a permit from the local Cultural Antique Department is also needed if you go to Tholing Monastery, Ruins of Guge Kingdom (Tsaparang) in Ngrai.

The government of Tibet is preparing to simplify these procedures now so this mysterious land can be unveiled to the world. Soon traveling to Tibet will be less of inconvenience


ACQUIRING VISA FOR TIBET :
For obtaining a Tibet Visa in Kathmandu Seven Peaks would require minimum of 3 clear working days and the clients will have to reach Kathmandu accordingly.


Currency :
Tibetan official currency is RMB but is at extinction due to its political instability therefore Chinese currency YUAN is more circulatory in whole of Tibet. Yuan is found in the currency denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Yuan.
